My very own flighty bird!

So, this lovely image is what my brother (disgustingly, talented artist that he is) created for me as the design of my first tattoo. I asked him about two years ago if he would, and he agreed, but then he had to go and get all famous and recognized on me! Don't get me wrong, I love my brother and am so incredibly proud of the portfolio he has been able to create. He has gone so far in his industry of visual arts by his 25th birthday that many don't achieve in their lifetime...but I digress.

My tattoo! I've been wanting one since I turned 17. A friend of mine in high school had stolen her older sister's ID to get one for herself, and I was insanely jealous since my older sister and I don't look alike. And the fact that I'm 5" taller than her may be a dead give-away. So, there I was, a senior in high school, yearning for the "coolness" of being stuck by a needle for hours on end! And then I finally turned 18! Yippee! But, oh yeah, I decided to live at home while I attended college, and my parents would totally flip a shit if they ever caught me with a tattoo. I was left, yet again, to wait and pine over my tattoo that seemed to never be fated. Finally, for my 21st birthday, I new I wanted a tattoo of a hummingbird (reasons to be explained in a later posting), and I asked Big-Brother if he would design it for me. He said it would be no problem, and he actually liked the idea of having his very own walking billboard!

So, my 21st birthday came and went, and as my brother moved continuously up and beyond in his field, he was always getting busier and busier...so guess what got put on the back-burner?! I took it all in stride, saying that my personal infliction of pain can wait while my brother's life is so new and exciting! But then my 22nd birthday came and went...and then we started rounding towards my 23rd when I so kindly (ok, maybe not that kindly) reminded him that my design was over 2 years late!! So on my 23rd birthday he promised to have it done in a month so I could get it in time before my December vacation to Montego Bay, Jamaica!

Well, surprise surprise, December came and went and still no tattoo! Beyond frustration and on the verge of giving up, he emails me at work one day out of the blue (due to his fame, I hardly see, hear or talk to him anymore) with an attachment of a rudimentary design of what you see above! I was ecstatic! Elated in fact! And so damn excited I nearly cried! So, over the course of the day, with emails going back and forth, that is what our collaborative effort came up with! I love it! I am truly in love with my hummingbird and can't WAIT to have it done. The appointment is on July 15th, and it was scheduled for a 3 hour sitting (Yikes!), but I guess that is what you get with a lot of color!
